4. The Warriors (1979)
Ultimate Director’s Cut - Blu Ray (Netflix)
I have to admit this was my first viewing of this cult classic - I know it’s just wrong but some movies slip through the cracks. But I have been wanting to see it for some time and although it doesn’t fit one-hundred percent within my rubric of dystopian movies I figured it’s an excuse to watch it.
Obviously, I can’t comment too much on the differences between the cuts but I did watch all the features included and from what I could discern the only substantial additions are the cartoon comic panel transitions between scenes. I could have done without them entirely.
I can’t help but feel a similarity between The Warriors and Streets of Firein their cartoonish depiction of street life. Where else would you find gangs dressed in mime outfits, glittery vests and face paint?
My one big problem with the Warriors is it has to be the ugliest cast I’ve ever seen in a movie, if you can get past that it’s pretty fun.
What gang would I be in? Probably the Savage Huns obviously because they’re asian or the Electric Eliminators because they have shiney yellow satin jackets and satin jackets with embroidery are always cool. The one so called skinhead gang was lame so I wouldn’t join them.
